RIP Grandad Ron
Today the world lost a great man, my Grandad Ronnie. Born and raised minutes away from Upton Park and a life long Hammer.

He once said that "if West Ham being shit is your only worry in life, stop worrying, they have and always will be". Sound advise.

RIP Grandad, love you will all my heart.

Thank you mate, we gave him the send off he deserved. Was lovely to see all the family and hear their stories from the old east end. Just a shame that it takes a funeral to get everyone together, but that's life I suppose!!

Grandad's funeral was today and funnily enough met a family member I'd never met before today who saw the original message on here but doesn't post.

Hello to Teddy if you're reading and great to meet you and the rest of the family, shame about the circumstances but hopefully brings a few of us together having drifted apart over the years.

Kind messages, thank you all.

I was in the same hospital having an operation on my hip yesterday, I came out of theatre and shortly after was when he passed. I like to think he waited for me before letting go.

Full of words of wisdom was Grandad... When I split up with an ex his said "never trust a fucking woman boy, bitches the lot of them". Great old boy, never said much but when he did was always quality. Used to slip me a fiver to stick on the horses when I went to visit and would always give me a wink and tell me to lump the winings on the next bet if the first came in.

Will be sorely missed.

Re: RIP Grandad Ron
Grandparents always have a special place in your heart. My grandad was fit as a fiddle, would walk miles and one Sunday afternoon decided to move a huge concrete umbrella stand in his garden (at 83), split his pancreas, was rushed to hospital and never came out. Spent 4 weeks inintensive care and finally passed after telling us all "im ready to go now; don't be sad, I've had a wonderful life and seen my grandchildren grow into wonderful people". 10 minutes later he was gone.

That was 8 years ago and I still miss him terribly.

RIP to yours. I know it's scant consolation, but the addige about being greatful he had a good innings is a true one. Sounds like he saw his grandchildren grow up and bowed out without suffering the indignity that dementia can often bring.
